“I give Don my highest recommendation. I found him in the Good Service Guide about 3 or 4 years ago, and he is incredible. I am very environmentally aware, and so is he. I just tell him to lock up when he’s done. He is honest and dependable, and he comes to my home every 6 months.”
“Don does an amazing job. We have off-white carpeting, and when we had our library put in it was virtually destroyed. Don came in and with some persistence was able to completely restore it. His work is perfect, and we won’t go to anybody else. I’ve used some other companies and he is far superior.”

If you’ve ever had a carpet cleaner quote you “$6.95 a room,” then present you with a bill for $300 one hour later – yet in a few weeks your carpet, rugs and upholstery look like they’ve never been cleaned – you’ll really appreciate Don Newcomer of On The Spot.
For 27 years, Don has been steam cleaning carpets, oriental rugs, and upholstery throughout the East Bay. He doesn’t use “bait and switch” tactics to get your final price up above what you thought you were going to pay.
“My price per square foot (length x width) covers everything, including pre-conditioning,” Don explains. “Other cleaners charge you for these ‘extras’ so that they can get more than the low price they originally quoted.”
“I’m very thorough. I don’t leave your home until you’re completely satisfied. I guarantee that I’ll get your carpets really clean, and that the spots will stay gone. The only extra is Scotchguarding carpets and upholstery.
“Integrity is very important to me. I love working with people, and I love doing a good job.”
Don uses the only carpet cleaning method approved by Stainmaster Carpet industry. Some people worry that steam might oversoak their carpets, spoil their hardwood floors, or cause fabric colors to run. Don’s machine uses high-pressure vacuum technology to suck all the water (and the soil) back into the machine before it can soak through.
If he has any concerns, he carefully pre-tests a small section before he starts. He and his employee, Larry, clean oriental rugs, area rugs and berber carpets, as well as standard wall-to-wall carpets, upholstery, and car interiors.
“Steam cleaning with pre-enzyme treatments is the only way to get a carpet really clean,” Don says. “Sometimes the water comes back as black as espresso coffee! Then I rinse it until the rinse water comes back clear, so that the carpet is completely free from any residue, and feels fresh and soft.
“In 27 years of working all over the East Bay, I’ve only ever had one complaint.”
