“I had never worked with a color consultant before, but Dar is truly an artist. She knows the emotional balance of colors. Sometimes we’d look at a color, discuss how I felt about it, and come up with exactly what I wanted. The work is never about her, it’s about you and what you alone want. She really cares about trying to identify just what that is. She is not about pushing her taste on someone.”
“They did a elaborate color consultation with us on our home in Bernal Heights last summer, then painted it. It turned out beautifully. We receive compliments from our neighbors all the time- people just rave about the house. Dar’s color combination is unique and unusual, and was perfectly applied. We are utterly delighted.”
“Thank you for recommending them in The Good Service Guide. They were every bit as good as you said. They gave me a bid quickly, started promptly and did a beautiful job, on time and within my budget.”

Painting with a personal touch is the specialty of Dar Greenberg Painting. “I try to make people comfortable with the whole process,” says owner Dar Greenberg.
“You won’t be dealing with a crew of anonymous painters taking an assembly line approach to your home. You will have our undivided attention from start to finish. Our crews are supervised daily by our manager, Dan Massie, while I concentrate on sales, design and color consulting.”
Dar has been in the painting business for 20 years. Before that she was an artist and photographer.
Dar’s expertise in color consultation is what distinguishes them from other painting companies. Whether you’re looking for a conservative, but elegant color scheme, or something a little more dramatic, Dar’s interior and exterior color schemes have been featured in many local guidebooks, including San Francisco Painted Ladies, the visual bible of the City’s most beautiful Victorian homes.
With a crew of ten employees, they take on large restoration projects and fine exteriors and interiors. Using Dar’s network of local artisans specialized in such dying trades as gilding and wood turning, they can bring back the beauty of interior woodwork, refinish a weathered front door, and make decks and shingles look like new.
When you are shopping for a painter, Dar suggests that you determine your requirements, and make sure the contractor understands the level of quality and preparation necessary. Also, take care to note what the contractor notices. Finally obtain bids for identical procedures, so that you can compare like with like. Otherwise, you’ll get a wide range of prices for jobs that are not identical, and you’ll have no way of evaluating them (plus you won’t be assured of the same results).
“We’re not out to beat the market,” says Dar, “but I believe that our prices are reasonable, given the level of service that we provide and the look we achieve. I offer expert color consultation and knowledgeable advice on a complete range of painting and waterproofing services.”
